  2. I was going to, actually, but it seemed too obvious. And I didn’t watch it, much as I like Michael Portillo.

  4. Hmm… if you’re going to attack me for not watching a Michael Portillo programme, I think I’d prefer it if you attributed it to an unreasoning hatred of people of Southern European descent.

  6. When were you in Yorkshire? I saw climber John Dunn soloing a crag in Ilkley quarry a couple of years ago.

  7. I was in Segovia last Summer, although only for a day (I was on the way to Santiago de Compostella). I’m quite envious of you having spent a year there, it’s a beautiful place.

I’m in Yorkshire now, actually, but I think I took those pictures at Christmas. I used to live in Yorkshire (I went to school in Ripon), and my parents still live here. Is John Dunn the climber the same as John Dunn the political theorist? I’d like to see him climb Ilkley quarry, and explain the historical context of the word ‘quarry’ for two hours when he got to the top.

  8. i only lived there for a month, and by “there” i actually mean a small town outside segovia. but it is nice indeed. though some angry spanish males slipped my (male) friend a date rape drug there as well…

i lived the rest of the time in madrid, but as i’ve probably told you, santiago de compostela is the greatest place on earth, and the only place you can get a 4 Euro menu del dia, three courses with wine and coffee…

  10. Unfortunately I don’t. Of course, you’re free to read this site as if I did. It might improve it.

  11. Is it OK if I give you the voice of John Prescott?
