Every morning I wake up on

The wrong side of capitalism

Houston manifesto

Though I mostly agree with every other left-wing blogger that the appropriate response to this nonsense manifesto is either silence or a bit of mild giggling, I was interested to see this post which looks at it seriously in terms of its claim to be a left-wing document. The conclusion:

Anyway, it’s nice to see a strong liberal statement come out, and for it to clearly show once again the dividing line between socialists and liberalism.

  1. Wow!

There is nothing in it about how to achieve any of the stated objectives, which is the key difference between liberalism and radicalism that I see. This lack, along with the acceptance of the state as the main ‘actor’ (the use of state and national categories is unsettling) indicates that it can ONLY happen by surrendering our power to the state or influencing the state (please, please, please!) towards implementing such manifestos. How disempowering!

    Bloody liberals and day dreamers!

    Manos

  2. I know! Apparently a number of the people involved are ex-tankies, you’ld think they’d have some idea of how you set up a political organization, but apparently not. The worst thing about their completely formal posturing is that it’s utopian, but it’s such a banal utopia. I mean, if you’re going to make moralistic pronouncements divorced from any practical organizing, why limit yourself so tightly to the coordinates given by the empire?

  3. Hello. I’ve suddenly come upon something most curious that I didn’t even know existed: a left-wing internet!
